Houston, Texas residents are encouraged to ride their bikes to work this Friday, May 16, 2008 as part of the United State’s effort to promote clean commuting and to reduce pollution from ozone emissions.

To plan a route for biking in Houston, check out the city’s bikeway map at one of the city libraries or by clicking here to access it online.

Residents are also encouraged to check to see if the city buses, which have bike racks on them, fit into their route. bike riders

Dan Raine, the pedestrian bicycle coordinator for the Houston-Galveston Area Council has the following recommendations for preparing to ride a bicycle to work:

- Make sure your bike is in good working order
- Plan a safe route
- Wear clothing with reflective strips on it (don’t forget to wear a bike helmet)
- Take a change of clothes in a backpack
