While he is sad about the number of original barns being torn down and is heartsick at the loss of these landmarks and a part of our history in the United States, he has found a way to give them new life by recycling the wood from them.
Jay owns the American Barn Company shop in Chicago where he sells picture frames, bookends, benches, shelves, tables, and flooring and several other things including custom projects.
What I personally think it really neat about what he does is that with every barn wood item he sells he includes a picture of the barn it came from along with what he learned about that particular barn.
So, for example, when a person buys a wood picture frame from an old barn they are not only getting a great recycled wood product, they are getting a little piece of history too.
