A steady supply of clean water is a great thing to have.
But do ever wonder how much water you use throughout your home or if there are ways you could be truly efficient with your water usage both inside your home and in your yard?
H2ouse.org can help answer those questions. It is a website developed by the California Water Conservation Council with cooperation from the United State’s Environmental Protection Agency. While the council was developed because of water supply and water conservation concerns in California, there is great information on the website that anyone can use.
Some of the things I found useful or interesting:
- Water Use Calculator (click on the water budget calculator link) that helps figure out how much water a family is using and what they are using it on.
- Top 5 Actions (click on the top 5 actions link) to save water in and around the home (did you know the toilet is the largest water user in a home?).
- the Home Tour which is an interactive map of a house and yard with clickable areas that contain facts and advice. For example, in the bathroom tour I clicked on the bathroom faucet and learned the average faucet in the United States has a 1.3 gallons per minute flow rate and that the average person uses the faucet for 8.1 minutes a day.
- the Garden Guide for help creating water conserving gardens that not only conserve water but look great too.
- How to Read Your Water Meter (yes, the first thing you need to do is find it)
